24th Annual Libby StandDown – October 4th & 5th, 2025

Kalispell Montana
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the NW MT Veterans Food Pantry held its much-anticipated Shred Event at 1349 US Hwy 2 E, across from Super 1 in Evergreen. The event provided a secure, convenient way for community members to dispose of sensitive documents while supporting local veterans.
Running from 9–11 AM and 1–3 PM, the event saw an outstanding turnout. More than 3,000 pounds of paper were safely shredded, all while fostering a spirit of generosity and community support.
Evergreen enjoyed beautiful spring weather with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-60s—perfect conditions for the event. The afternoon session drew a steady stream of participants, including many veterans who took advantage of the free shredding service, which allowed up to four boxes of documents per person at no charge. In return, attendees donated generously, filling three large carts with canned goods—estimated at several hundred cans—and contributing a significant amount of cash to help fund the pantry’s mission of serving local veterans.
With the theme “Tax Season is Over!”, the event also offered valuable resources on suicide prevention, identity theft, Medicare fraud prevention, and caregiver support, with AARP Montana providing free identity theft prevention guides. Free event swag bags were available in limited quantities. Key partners, including Flathead County Agency on Aging, Kalispell Vet Center, and Upward Bound, were instrumental in the event’s success.
A particularly moving moment came when a Navy veteran in his 70s expressed heartfelt appreciation for the service. “This means so much—I can finally clear out these old papers without worry,” he said, underscoring the meaningful impact on those it was designed to help. Organizers reported that the event exceeded expectations—both in the amount of paper shredded and in donations collected—ensuring the pantry can continue its vital work for the veteran community.
The NW MT Veterans Food Pantry also operates an antiques, furniture, and thrift store, open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. The organization looks forward to hosting more events that unite the community in support of local veterans. Visit their thrift store to learn more about upcoming initiatives and ways to get involved.
